DIFERENCES BETWEEN TUMMY TUCK VS FLEUR-DE-LIS
Admit it! A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. Skin grows as you grow and usually manages to keep up with your body. When a person gains a significant amount of weight, the tissue has to stretch to contain the extra fat cells.
It’s very often that gaining weight or having children causes your abdominal muscles to separate, making it difficult to tighten your tummy even with a healthy exercise regimen. The extra skin is left hanging loose on your body instead. This leaves room for fat deposits to lurk and makes it difficult to show off your smaller figure with confidence.
Here’s when you realize you need plastic surgery. Tummy Tuck it’s a very popular procedure among men and women of all shapes and sizes, and it can do everything from removing stubborn areas of fat to completely reshaping your whole abdomen. There are different types of abdominoplasty available to plastic surgery patients depending on the exact needs of your tummy. Here are some difference between Tummy Tuck vs Fleur-De-Lis:
TRADITIONAL TUMMY-TUCK
A traditional Tummy-Tuck treats both the upper and lower abdomen. In addition to tightening and smoothening the stomach skin both above and below the belly button, a traditional tummy tuck can remove excess fatty tissue as well as repair loose or broken abdominal muscles through an incision normally hidden below the bikini line. Remember, a tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program and can’t correct stretch marks.
A full tummy tuck requires a horizontally-oriented incision in the area between the pubic hairline and belly button. The shape and length of the incision will be determined by the amount of excess skin. Once the abdominal skin is lifted, the underlying weakened abdominal muscles are repaired. A second incision around the navel may be necessary to remove excess skin in the upper abdomen.
FLEUR-DE-LIS
The Fleur-De-Lis tummy tuck is for patients with extremely redundant abdominal skin after massive weight loss or bariatric surgery. Often, candidates for the Fleur-De-Lis have an abdominal region that is wider than the hips. In a Fleur-De-Lis, excess skin and fatty tissue is removed and abdominal muscles can be repaired through a standard tummy tuck incision as well as a vertical incision in the center of the abdomen.
A fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty closes that gap by providing horizontal skin tightening on top of the vertical skin tightening. The procedure has two incisions – one along your pubic bone, like in the standard tummy tuck, and a vertical incision that runs along the middle of your abdomen. The length of the vertical incision will depend on how high the skin laxity goes on your abdomen. This extra incision allows the surgeon to tighten your skin from the sides as well as up and down, which will drastically improve the look of your abdomen.
